Electron Affinity is the amount of energy released when a neutral atom accepts an electron to become a negative ion. Discussion of Electron Affinity [local].

The trend in electron affinity is then very similar to the trend in ionization energy. These trends are similar because each deals with how well an atom attracts electrons. As such they are both connected to the tendency to gain electrons, [local] and the tendency to lose electrons. [local]
