Alkaline Earth Metals

Alkali Metals: Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Fr

The Alkali Metals are the metals of Group1 (IA). These elements each have a single valence electron that is easily lost due to the low attraction for this valence electron. These elements are extremely reactive in the elemental state; they are not found free in nature. The existence of the element was known before a pure sample of the element was obtained due to the difficulty in isolating the elemental state of each metal. These metals are all low density with the first three being less dense than water. They all react readily with oxygen and water, and must be stored in a way to prevent contact with water and air.
