DEMONSTRATIONS

While teaching quantum mechanics may be difficult, most teachers remark that un-teaching the Bohr model of the atom [local] is a greater challenge. Students latch onto the idea that electrons orbit the nucleus in concentric circles (that they orbit like the planets around the sun).

Teachers must be VERY careful in all of their references and illustrations to represent the atom in an accurate way. Overcoming the Bohr model misconception requires continuous reinforcement.
