The array of materials we call plastics is enormous and growing. Plastic is the name we give to many industrial polymers, particularly those derived from synthetic sources. Plastics are characterized by being formable or pliable at some stage during manufacture. Some basic definitions are covered in an article concerning applications of polymers [local].
