Charles Law

In the1700's Robert Boyle [local] discovered that the product of the pressure and volume of an ideal was equal to a numerical constant, P*V=k, when the temperature and amount of gas were held constant. Given this relationship, Boyle's law describes the inverse relationship between the pressure and volume of an ideal gas.

Mathematically, Boyle's law is modeled as a power function (Pressure=k*Volume-1). Power function implies that the independent variable, volume, is raised to some value as an exponent. In the case of Boyle's law, the exponent is -1 indicating the inverse relationship.
