Gas Law constant

The ideal gas law relates four of the gas law variables.

The ideal gas law is derived by applying Avogadro's law to the combined gas law. When this occurs, the product of pressure and volume divided by the product of amount and temperature is constant (P*V/n*T=k). In this case, the constant is called the ideal gas constant, or gas constant, and is given a special symbol, R. Since the amount of gas is typically measured in moles, alternative forms of the ideal gas equation permit calculations of mass and particles.
