Acid rain [local] is an environmental phenomenon wherein acid oxides dissolve in rain water making that water acidic. In some situations, the resulting acid rain has significant consequences.

Although volcanoes produce much of the acidic gases, an enormous amount has resulted from the widespread use of fossil fuels.
