Microwaves [local] are in the region of the energy spectrum connected with molecular rotation. These are in the same frequency range as used for radio and television.

A microwave oven uses radiation of a specific frequency (2.450 gHz) that interacts with water. The increased molecular motion induced by microwave radiation leads to increased kinetic energy and therefore to increased temperatures (and cooking).
