When reading about lipids, you will often see much coverage about the evils of trans-fatty acids. However, be aware that there is also intense interest in the trans-isomers of linoleic acid (also called conjugated linoleic acid) because it may have health effects that are not yet understood. Claimed benefits include decreased atherosclerosis, increased 'good cholesterol' levels in the blood, increased metabolic rates and weight loss.
