Acid anhydrides; Base anhydrides

The Bronsted-Lowry theory does not explain acid-base reactions that do not involve hydrogen.

The Lewis theory is a more encompassing theory of acids and bases. A Lewis acid is an electron pair acceptor, and a Lewis base is an electron pair donor.

This source adds to the Lewis theory by showing how a metal ion is an acid.
