Acid mine drainage [local](aka acid rock drainage) is an environmental problem associated with mining. Predicting [local] acid mine drainage (AMD) is difficult and currently relies on both static and kinetic testing procedures. The chemistry [local]behind acid mine drainage involves oxidation of sulfur and the production of sulfuric acid. Passive and active [local]treatments are discussed. The concentration of oxygen and acidity determines the rate [local] that pyrites are oxidized and sulfuric acid is produced.
