Hyperchloraemic acidosis [local] or normal anion gap acidosis can result from renal difficulties or acidosis from ingestion of too much salicylic acid or diabetes. An explanation of anion gap. Metabolic acidosis is linked to normal pH regulation in the kidney. Anesthetists have to regulate changes in pH very carefully and some use the physico-chemical approach.
