Using copper and silver

For many years, water has been purified for human consumption by the addition of chlorine. Bacteria are oxidized to destroy them. Chlorocarbons are produced by the addition of large amounts of chlorine so most water systems do some airation and filtration before the addition of chlorine to reduce the amount used. Chlorination does not deal effectively with all pathogens.

Cryptosporidium resists chlorination.
