Conventional dry cleaning has used chlorinated solvents, especially perchloroethylene. A combination of health and environmental concerns has caused this industry to seek alternative strategies. Liquid carbon dioxide, CO2, used as a supercritical fluid, can be used in an effective alternative to conventional dry cleaning.
